Dear Families: It is with pleasure that I will be teaching Reading and ELA to sixth grade students for the 2016-17 school year. I am excited to work with your child, and feel the year will be successful. We will read various genres throughout the year which will keep the curriculum interesting and fresh.
Sixth grade will be filled with new and exciting avenues for your child such as changing classes and having different teachers for different subjects. It is imperative that homework is completed every night. It is also imperative that your child reads every night so that his/her stamina and comprehension increase. Having said this, please understand the importance of reading during the summer months. Reading should fit in with your child’s daily summer routine to maintain his/her current level.
In order to prepare for next year, I have attached a supply list(s) for you. I will have EVERY sixth grader for Book Club, and SOME sixth graders for ELA. Please note that the ELA Supply List is attached as well, but your child may have a different teacher for ELA. Please provide the supplies for the first day of school. These materials are most important for your child’s success and organization. Additionally, please have your child bring his/her summer reading log on the first day of school. I am also requesting that the sixth graders use their summer reading bag as their book baggie for the first marking period, so please reiterate that he/she takes good care of those bags! Please make sure your child’s name is written on the bag.
I feel most fortunate to be working with your child this year, and look forward to meeting you as well. If you have any concerns during the summer months, please feel free to email me at email@example.com. Thank you and enjoy your summer.
